Black Island, Lough Muckno - 5 September 2010
Match report 20 members old and new turned up for the start of Winter League 2010. A strong wind limited most anglers to feeder tactics but with the water warm and coloured it wasn't long before the anglers in the deeper pegs began to draw in the resident skimmers, hybrids and roach. Martin Kantor took advantage of his next-to-end peg to finish well clear of the field with 19.850kg, Dave Hill coming in as runner up from two pegs away with 11.550kg.
Martin fished the feeder at 21 turns, using double red maggot on a size 14 hook, introducing all his feed through the feeder to ensure that feed would not be spread around the swim and draw fish away to the margins of the peg. His first two fish were 3lb bream which were followed by a succession of small skimmers and roach. Only in the last 90 minutes did bigger bream show, when he had 7 bream around the 4lb mark.
Overall a great start to the league, plenty of anglers on the bank and lots of competition for the Winter League. With Southside Angling supporting the league, there will be a €200 voucher to split between the top 3 and the best bag of fish from a natural venue - Martin must be in with a chance of that already.
